O objetivo deste estudo é fornecer uma descrição rica do papel das línguas, especialmente das línguas indígenas, no currículo do ensino secundário no Bangladesh. Através desta investigação, procuro identificar o papel das línguas maternas na educação. O Bangladesh tem um currículo concebido a nível central que não se centra nas línguas minoritárias. Embora as línguas tribais não estejam incluídas no currículo previsto e operacional, isso afecta as práticas de ensino na sala de aula, bem como a vida dos alunos tribais. Como a língua de instrução é o bangla, as culturas, identidades e experiências passadas dos alunos tribais não são valorizadas nas actividades diárias de aprendizagem na sala de aula. Partindo de uma compreensão do currículo como instrumento de controlo social do conhecimento, mostro como o currículo de línguas do ensino secundário promove a desigualdade social através do domínio intelectual do bangla e do inglês sobre as línguas tribais menos prestigiadas, ao não incluir as línguas, a cultura e os valores indígenas.
