Lo scopo di questo studio è quello di fornire una ricca descrizione del ruolo delle lingue, in particolare delle lingue indigene, nel programma di studi secondari in Bangladesh. Attraverso questa ricerca cerco di identificare il ruolo delle lingue materne nell’istruzione. Il Bangladesh ha un programma di studi progettato a livello centrale che non si concentra sulle lingue minoritarie. Sebbene le lingue tribali non siano incluse nel programma di studi previsto e in quello operativo, ciò influisce sulle pratiche di insegnamento in classe e sulla vita degli studenti tribali. Poiché la lingua d’insegnamento è il Bangla, le culture, le identità e le esperienze passate degli studenti tribali non sono valorizzate nelle attività quotidiane di apprendimento in classe. Basandomi sulla comprensione del curriculum come strumento di controllo sociale della conoscenza, mostro come il curriculum linguistico secondario promuova l’ineguaglianza sociale attraverso il dominio intellettuale del Bangla e dell’inglese sulle lingue tribali meno prestigiose, non includendo le lingue, la cultura e i valori indigeni.
