The study described in this book sought to assess Brazilian farmers’ perceptions of the economic risks arising from the violation of intellectual property rights over high-yield seeds and transgenic events inserted therein, belonging to public and private research and innovation organisations, defined by law as plant breeders, and to researchers and breeders, and which are used as an essential input in contemporary precision agriculture. It also sought to assess the actual existence and possible causes of this phenomenon, known in popular language as seed piracy, among the agents comprising the sample studied.
