La investigación sobre la etiología de las enfermedades neurodegenerativas es uno de los campos de mayor interés en la medicina actual. En este libro se recogen las especies de hongos y de bacterias que describimos en publicaciones científicas en los cerebros de pacientes fallecidos con distintas enfermedades neurodegenerativas. Es interesante constatar la gran cantidad de especies de microbios que se detectan en estos cerebros. Esta microbiota del cerebro está relacionada con la microbiota humana presente en cada uno de estos pacientes. Estos microbios tienen tropismo por el sistema nervioso. Cada paciente es único en cuanto a su microbiota cerebral y esto explica por qué los síntomas clínicos y la evolución de la enfermedad varía de una persona a otra. 10
