Ecology is one of the sciences that has reached its peak in recent decades, perhaps the most universal at this time, because its object interests everyone: the collective destiny, not only of a system of life, but of the planet itself. It is necessary to consider the immense chain of relationships through which the garden snail and the wild flower are related to the Moon, the Sun, the Galaxy or the great explosion that took place fifteen billion years ago. Ecology is considered a new science because this subject has reached such a level of depth that it has become too important to remain in the hands of a few.
