A fraction is simply a part of a whole or, more generally, any number of equal parts. It’s a way to represent the parts of a whole or a collection of objects. A fraction has two parts. The number on the top of the line is called the numerator. It tells us how many equal parts of the whole or collection we’re dealing with. The number below the line is called the denominator. It shows us the total number of equal parts into which the whole is divided or the total number of the same objects in a collection. See? Fractions are not as complicated as they may seem at first. They’re actually quite fun and straightforward to learn about. You’ll find that understanding fractions is easier than you think!
