This work deals with the dwarves from Tolkien’s Middle-earth and their possible ’roots’ in Norse mythology. Using examples from Norse literature and Tolkien’s works, it examines the similarities between Tolkien’s dwarves and Norse dwarves and their origins. The paper not only provides an overview of external characteristics such as appearance, habitat, names and language, but also compares their interaction with other peoples such as dragons, elves and giants on a narrative level.
