Austin Dobson
Henry Austin Dobson (1840-1921), commonly known as Austin Dobson, was an English poet, essayist, and biographer. Renowned for his mastery of the English verse, particularly in forms like the ballade, villanelle, and rondeau, Dobson’s work often reflected a deep admiration for 18th-century literary and artistic traditions. His poetry, characterized by its elegance and wit, was influential in the revival of interest in earlier poetic forms. Dobson was also a respected biographer, with notable works on literary figures such as Hogarth and Fielding.
