Le dighe in pietrame sono costruite principalmente utilizzando materiali di riempimento ottenuti dalla frantumazione di rocce o materiali di riempimento alluvionali raccolti dai letti dei fiumi. In questo articolo vengono esaminati due materiali di riempimento modellati utilizzando una cella triassiale media. Sono state condotte prove triassiali drenate su materiali di riempimento modellati di varie dimensioni utilizzati nelle due dighe. I dati delle prove sono stati analizzati, sono stati studiati il comportamento delle sollecitazioni-deformazioni e delle variazioni di volume dei materiali di riempimento in pietrame e sono stati studiati gli effetti delle dimensioni e della pressione di confinamento sulla deformazione assiale, sulla deformazione volumetrica e sui parametri elastici.
