Die intrauterine Insemination (IUI) ist eine einfache Methode der assistierten Reproduktion, die häufig bei unerklärter Unfruchtbarkeit eingesetzt wird, doch die Ergebnisse sind manchmal enttäuschend. In einer vierjährigen retrospektiven Studie in Tunis wurden 196 unfruchtbare Paare untersucht, um Prädiktoren für den Erfolg der IUI zu ermitteln. Bei 328 analysierten Zyklen lag die klinische Schwangerschaftsrate bei 15,2%. Frauen mit polyzystischem Ovarialsyndrom wiesen die höchste Schwangerschaftsrate auf (35,1%). Zu den Faktoren, die den Erfolg beeinflussten, gehörten die Dauer der Unfruchtbarkeit, der basale FSH-Spiegel, die Qualität und Quantität der Spermien sowie die Dicke des Endometriums. Die Ergebnisse legen nahe, dass die Berücksichtigung dieser Parameter die Erfolgsaussichten einer IUI verbessern könnte.
