La figura del ministro Diego Portales está rodeada de mitos y leyendas que impiden conocer su real desempeño. Al lado de esos hechos se sitúa, en el campo internacional, la defensa de los derechos de Chile y el enfrentamiento con la Confederación Perú-Boliviana.
