Revised Edition. Plugged Into The Abyss, a noir-mystery street adventure, is the discovery of a man’s true character, stripped of the street-sharp barriers of toughness he exploits to operate in the grime and sweat of Oakland’s underground of the near future.Private investigator and bodyguard Richard Valentine is the next-door neighbor who plods off to work every morning. His attraction to the street life his profession immerses him in has ruined his marriage, and slammed a wedge of anger and bitterness between him and his police inspector father. The apparent plot confronts the treatment of women in our society through Valentine’s search for a missing heiress. A drug-dealing pimp who sells women to porn rings has kidnapped his client’s daughter. The revealed plot is Valentine’s exploration of his own primal instincts. Forced into taking a hard look at himself, he realizes he is straddling the line between street-thug and law abiding citizen. Richard Valentine takes a first step away from the harsh street mentality in which he grew up.

Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...
