As plantas são amplamente reconhecidas como a principal fonte da maioria dos novos medicamentos, sendo historicamente utilizadas no tratamento e prevenção de doenças. Neste sentido, selecionar plantas usadas tradicionalmente contra doenças infecciosas pode ser uma excelente estratégia para a investigação de novos agentes antimicrobianos, uma vez que os compostos de origem natural fornecem um elevado número de estruturas interessantes. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi buscar e investigar plantas utilizadas no tratamento de doenças infecciosas por indígenas Mbyá-Guarani - Lomba do Pinheiro, Porto Alegre.
