La comunità LGBTI in Uganda è quotidianamente vittima di diverse forme di discriminazione e campagne di odio. Le violazioni dei diritti umani comprendono la divulgazione dell’orientamento sessuale degli omosessuali e inviti pubblici all’omicidio. In Uganda, le persone LGBTI devono nascondersi e sono spesso costrette a fingersi eterosessuali. Le persone LGBTI sono spesso vittime di vessazioni e maltrattamenti, aggressioni violente, arresti arbitrari, estorsioni, sfratti forzati, stupri curativi, rifiuto da parte delle loro famiglie, espulsioni scolastiche, torture e uccisioni. In Uganda il comportamento omosessuale è criminalizzato e le violazioni dei diritti umani nei confronti delle persone LGBTI hanno una base giuridica. Nel febbraio 2014, il presidente dell’Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, ha firmato una legge molto severa contro l’omosessualità. Sebbene questa legge sia stata ritirata alcuni mesi dopo, le persone LGBTI in Uganda vivono in una situazione di costante insicurezza a causa del clima sociale duro e violento.
