Fray Juan de Santa Gertrudis (Mallorca, 1724-1799), es el autor de Maravillas de la naturaleza.En 1757 se fue a América del Sur como misionero franciscano y entre 1758 y 1767 fundó una aldea en el territorio del Putumayo llamada Agustinillo. Juan de Santa Gertrudis viajó entonces por los territorios del sur de la Nueva Granada, la provincia de Popayán, Quito y Santa Fe de Bogotá.Tras su experiencia americana, fray Juan de Santa Gertrudis escribió en España las Maravillas de la naturaleza. Su obra muestra una visión de la vida neogranadina del siglo XVIII muy diferente a la que ofrecen los documentos oficiales o las crónicas de conquista.La presente edición incluye un prólogo de Jesús García Pastor.
