Este trabalho visa relatar a história da Educação no Município de São José dos Quatro Marcos-MT. Abordando a chegada dos jesuítas em 1549, no Brasil. Em seguida, com Marquês de Pombal, que instaurou novas formas de ensino, as cartas régias. Outros eventos ocorreram para melhorar o nível educacional, com a chegada da corte portuguesa ao Brasil em 1808, que trouxe os primeiros cursos superiores. O período de governo de Getúlio Vargas de (1930-1945), voltado ao beneficiamento da educação brasileira, aconteceram várias reformas educacionais. Sobre a educação de Mato Grosso, trataremos de (1930 a 1960) era regimentada pela reforma de 1927, onde era ministrado no estado o ensino primário e o secundário, não havia pré-escola e ensino superior, mas existia o ensino profissional para formação normal de professores. A Educação de São José dos Quatro Marcos iniciou-se depois da chegada dos primeiros habitantes, em 1962, dando início a um povoado chamado 'Quatro Marcos', somente no ano de 1966 construiu-se a primeira escola 'Escola Rural Mista Duque de Caxias', tendo como primeiro professor Francisco Paulo de Brito, Inivaldo Mila e Maria Luiza Barbosa Alfredo.
