Die für die Mengenermittlung im Bauwesen erforderlichen Informationen werden nicht nur von verschiedenen Beteiligten in unterschiedlichen Bauphasen generiert, sondern auch in unterschiedlichen Formen gespeichert, darunter Grafiken, Text, Tabellen oder verschiedene Kombinationen aus diesen drei. Um einen Mengenansatz (BOQ) und andere Dokumente zu erstellen, muss der Projektmanager kontinuierlich Informationen aus verschiedenen Quellen entnehmen und auf Papier festhalten. Ohne ausreichendes Personal und Zeit ist es für den Projektmanager schwierig, diesen sich wiederholenden und mühsamen Prozess ordnungsgemäß zu bewältigen, was die Effektivität und Genauigkeit des Mengenermittlungsprozesses verringert, was wiederum zu Problemen bei der Planung, Ausschreibung und Bauüberwachung von Bauprojekten führt. Daher wurde ein automatisiertes Mengenermittlungssystem entwickelt, das GIS verwendet, um die für die Menge der verschiedenen Komponenten eines Bauprojekts erforderlichen Daten aus AutoCAD-Zeichnungen zu extrahieren und einen BOQ zu erstellen. Dieses Buch stellt die Hauptanwendungen von GIS in Bauprojekten für Projektmanager und Auftragnehmer vor, die an Bauprojekten beteiligt sind und die möglicherweise in Betracht ziehen, GIS und Baumanagement zu integrieren.
