La Expedición a Argel es un diario de la invasión española a Argel de 1775. Su autor, Carlos Gutiérrez de los Ríos, fue el VII conde de Fernán-Núñez y ocupó puestos de relevancia en el servicio diplomático de España. Así la vida y las circunstancias le permitieron ser un cronista privilegiado de los grandes sucesos del siglo XVIII. La expedición fue una operación de desembarco española para intentar tomar la ciudad de Argel en julio de 1775. El rey Carlos III había encomendado su conquista a Alejandro O’Reilly, al frente de una fuerza combinada de tropas navales y terrestres de cerca de cincuenta barcos y más de veinte mil soldados. La Expedición a Argel concluyó con un fracaso rotundo y la campaña resultó un duro golpe al pretendido resurgimiento militar español. Este libro de Carlos Gutiérrez de los Ríos es el escrito más completo de su época sobre el tema.
