En El general Las Heras Bartolomé Mitre relata la historia del general don Juan Gregorio de Las Heras. Mitre nació en Buenos Aires, el 11 de julio de 1780. Casi al mismo tiempo que el general Las Heras, futuro general y compañero suyo, nacía en un pueblo arruinado de las Misiones.Juan Gualberto Gregorio de Las Heras (Buenos Aires, 11 de julio de 1780-Santiago de Chile; 6 de febrero de 1866), fue un militar argentino. Integró el ejército de los Andes que participó de las guerras de independencia de Chile y Perú de las fuerzas monárquicas españoles y fue gobernador de la Provincia de Buenos Aires.Más tarde, durante su exilio en Chile, lideró a grupos opositores enfrentados a Juan Manuel de Rosas.
