Niepełnosprawność jest złożonym zjawiskiem, odzwierciedlającym interakcję między cechami ciała danej osoby a cechami społeczeństwa, w którym żyje. Podobnie jak w przypadku osób pełnosprawnych, tożsamość, osobowość i potrzeby osób niepełnosprawnych są zróżnicowane w zależności od wieku, płci, wykształcenia i środowiska, w którym żyją. Dokładne oszacowanie liczby osób niepełnosprawnych na poziomie globalnym jest nieco skomplikowane ze względu na ograniczenia w porównaniach międzynarodowych. Osoby niepełnosprawne realizują swoje potrzeby motywacyjne związane z akceptacją społeczną poprzez skuteczne wsparcie i pomoc ze strony rodziny, społeczeństwa, religii i zawodu, które umożliwiają im wykazywanie właściwych zachowań i pobudzają w nich właściwą motywację. Niniejsze badanie opisowe zostało przeprowadzone w regionie Puducherry w terytorium związkowym Pondicherry. Dane zebrano od respondentów za pomocą prostej metody losowego doboru próby, stosując ustrukturyzowany harmonogram wywiadów, który obejmował profil społeczno-ekonomiczny, poziom motywacji oraz czynniki motywacyjne respondentów związane z rodziną, społeczeństwem, religią i zawodem. Analizę danych przeprowadzono przy użyciu pakietu Statistical Package for Social Sciences. Zastosowano analizę korelacji, test t-Studenta oraz analizę wariancji (ANOVA).
