Cordierite gneisses of the Eastern Ghat Mobile Belt (EGMB), India, are significant for understanding high-temperature metamorphic processes and crustal evolution. Mineralogically, these rocks are characterized by the presence of Cordierite, Quartz, Feldspar, Biotite, Sillimanite, and Garnet, indicating granulite-facies metamorphism under high-temperature, low-pressure conditions. The presence of cordierite indicates that there was a lot of partial melting and mixing of rocks, which is important for understanding the geological events that happened during the Proterozoic era. Geochemically, these gneisses exhibit high Al₂O₃ content, variable Fe-Mg ratios, enrichment in light rare earth elements (LREE), and a negative Eu anomaly, reflecting crustal reworking and feldspar fractionation. We link their formation to crustal anatexis and magma generation, which makes them essential in understanding Proterozoic continental growth and the tectonic history of the EGMB.
