W celu sporządzenia mapy historycznej ewolucji miasta warownego Famagusta przeprowadzono badania dotyczące jego przeszłości architektonicznej z uwzględnieniem aspektów politycznych, ekonomicznych i społecznych, a także istniejącego dziedzictwa architektonicznego. W niniejszej publikacji miasto warowne zostało przeanalizowane pod kątem typów budynków, głównie z uwzględnieniem ich funkcji w okresie średniowiecza. Zebrano i przeanalizowano dane odzwierciedlające styl architektoniczny domów i typy zabudowań z różnych okresów. Następnie zbadano wpływ cech społecznych i ekonomicznych oraz charakterystyki mieszkańców na style architektoniczne.
