Sojourner Truth (c. 1797-1883) nació en una familia de esclavos, de la que la separaron cuando tenía apenas nueve años. Sin embargo, más tarde logró escapar a Nueva York, donde fue declarada libre. Nacida como Isabella Baumfree, Sojourner se cambió el nombre y comenzó a predicar a favor de la abolición de la esclavitud y de los derechos de las mujeres. Luchadora incansable, se convirtió en la primera mujer negra en ganarle un juicio a un hombre blanco. Con su famoso discurso de la convención de Ohio en 1851, en el que pronunció la frase que retomamos en el título de esta edición, se ganó el reconocimiento público. Hoy se la considera una de las precursoras del «feminismo negro».Este volumen incluye las dos versiones principales del discurso de 1851, en edición bilingüe y anotada, y cuenta con una introducción a cargo de María Luisa Femenías.
