Com os protestos iniciados em novembro de 2013 na Ucrânia, na Maidan (Praça da Independência) em Kiev, e a crise profunda que ainda persiste no país, a Ucrânia enfrenta os maiores desafios internos e externos desde o colapso da União Soviética. O gatilho para os protestos foi a decisão do então presidente Viktor F. Yanukovych de não concluir o acordo de associação planejado com a UE. A adesão da Crimeia à Rússia é uma consequência dos desenvolvimentos políticos na Ucrânia desde novembro de 2013. Este livro apresenta uma análise comparativa das ações dos Estados-Membros da UE, Alemanha e Polónia, em relação à chamada crise da Crimeia, e analisa em que medida a ação da União Europeia influenciou a política externa desses países na crise da Crimeia. A base teórica desta investigação é o Two-Level Game de Robert D. Putnam, que liga o nível político nacional ao nível político internacional.
