פרקי דרבי אליעזרפדר'אלרבי אליעזר הגדולבן הורקנוסרבי אליעזר בן הוּרקנוּס, הנקרא - רבי אליעזר, או רבי אליעזר הגדול, היה מגדולי התנאים בדור השני, בתקופת חורבן בית שני ולאחריו, ומבכירי תלמידיו של רבן יוחנן בן זכאי, אשר כינה אותו בור סוּד שאינו מאבד טיפה. בשל יכולות הלימוד שלו. היה עמיתו וגיסו של רבן גמליאל דיבנה ובר הפלוגתא של רבי יהושע בן חנניה. ישב בעיר לוד ועמד בראש ישיבה ובית דין בהבזוהר חדש מובא כי רבי אליעזר היה גלגול של ראובן בכור ישראל, ומסיבה זו, גזירת עשרת הרוגי מלכות שעל פי תורת הקבלה נגזרה על עשרת החכמים בשל היותם שקולים כנגד עשרת השבטים שהשליכו את יוסף לבור, לא חלה על רבי אליעזר, שלא היה שותף במכירת יוסף אלא רק ציווה להשליך את יוסף לבור, ועל כן השליכו את רבי אליעזר לבור אך העלו אותו לאחר מכן ולא הרגו אותורבי אליעזר חזר בגלגול רבינו האר'י זלה'ה, ותלמידו רבי עקיבא חזר בגלגול רבי חיים ויטאל, כמו שמבואר בשער הגלגולים, שהיה תלמידו המובהק של האר'י הקדוש, וקיבל ממנו את כל פנימיות תורת הקבלה, וכתב אותה לדורות
